Nanaimo Unpaved — March 21, 2027
Nanaimo, BC
Nanaimo Unpaved returns in 2027 to kick off the BC Gravel Series with a demanding course through the rugged forest roads of West Nanaimo. This early-season challenge rewards endurance, smart pacing and bike handling. Riders can expect typical Vancouver Island gravel, where changing road surfaces and changing elevation will quickly reveal who arrived ready for the season.
River City Gravel Fondo — April 18, 2027
Campbell River, BC
The River City Gravel Fondo takes riders deep into the expansive Campbell River backcountry for a fast and adventurous day on predominantly unpaved forest roads North of Campbell Lake. With approximately 99% of the route unpaved, this is classic endurance gravel: long stretches of remote road, repeated rollers and enough climbing to gradually wear down the legs. The relatively moderate gradients will encourage speed and group riding, but the distance, isolation and accumulated effort make this a serious test of stamina.
What De Fuca! — May 23, 2027
Sooke, BC
What De Fuca! is the wild one. Set in the steep and remote backwoods surrounding Sooke, this course captures the raw character of Vancouver Island’s southwest coast: dense forest, rough roads, punishing climbs and very little room for complacency. It is designed to be physically and mentally demanding—a true adventure race where preparation, resilience and sound equipment choices will matter as much as outright speed. When the road points upward and disappears into the forest, riders may find themselves asking the question that gave the race its name: What De Fuca!
West Coast Slugger — June 13, 2027
Comox Valley
West Coast Slugger delivers a heavyweight gravel adventure through the rolling hills and forest lands of the Alberni Valley. The route combines long backcountry climbs, rolling forest roads and substantial descents, with gradients reaching approximately 20% uphill and downhill. Riders will travel through an expansive and remote landscape near Sproat Lake, Nahmint Lake and the western reaches of the Alberni Valley, where rugged road conditions and accumulated elevation promise to land a few solid punches. Manage your effort, protect your equipment and save something for the final rounds. The Slugger may not knock you out—but it will make you earn the finish.
Forbidden Gravel — September 19, 2027
Comox Valley, BC
Forbidden Gravel brings the 2027 BC Gravel Series to a spectacular conclusion high in the mountains of the Comox Valley. Beginning and ending near Mount Washington.
Riders begin at close to 1,200 metres above sea level before plunging deep into the surrounding backcountry. After descending to the course’s lowest reaches, they must turn their attention toward the defining challenge of the day: a long and relentless return climb to the alpine finish. Gradients approaching 16%, substantial elevation changes and exposed mountain conditions make this relatively compact course far more demanding than its distance suggests. Fast descenders may gain an early advantage, but the final climb will decide who managed their effort wisely. With rugged forest roads, expansive mountain surroundings and a summit-level finish, Forbidden Gravel is a fitting final test—and an unforgettable way to close the 2027 season.
